Known as the "California Style" Rich created a new school for direct mail that involved an innovative visual mix of graphics and emotions, backed with intensive demographic strategies.

Rich has worked on ballot initiatives in California, Colorado, Oregon, Arizona, Washington, Hawaii, Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, and Nevada. His clients have also included Governors such as Janet Napolitano (AZ), Jennifer Granholm (MI), Ted Kulongoski (OR), Michael Lowry (WA), and Roy Barnes (GA); US Senators Christopher Dodd (CT), Timothy Wirth (CO), Evan Bayh (IN), Debbie Stabenow (MI), Max Baucas (MT), Jeff Bingaman (NM), and Hillary Clinton (NY); and numerous congressional members, state parties and membership organizations.

Rich first came to California in 1975 to work on the Muscone for Mayor Campaign. In 1976 he worked on the Tom Hayden for U.S. Senate race and served as the Northern California Field Director for the Democratic Party. By 1977 Rich had started his own direct mail firm and until 1986 was a co-owner of Schlackman Fazio. From 1987-1998 he was President and owner of Campaign Performance Group, and he has been a partner at MSHC Partners, Inc., since 1999.

Rich has written and co-authored numerous articles in Campaigns and Elections magazine and has been a board member for the American Association of Political Consultants for the past 8 years, where he serves as the Pollies Co-chair.
